The first company to bring iMessages to Android phones

This is the first company to bring iMessages to a device running the Android operating system. Nothing Phone 2 users in North America and Europe will be able to experience this feature first starting November 17, 2023.

Nothing shared that they do this because they want to 'break down the barriers' between messaging services that are dividing phone users. The company added that Sunbird provides a system to send messages from one user to another without storing it at any point in the message's journey and that the message is not stored. on Sunbird's server.

Sunbird stores users' iCloud credentials as tokens 'in an encrypted database'. Depending on the user's location, this information will be linked to one of their Mac Minis in the US or Europe. Mac Minis act as a relay device for iMessages sent through apps. After two weeks of inactivity, Sunbird will delete account information.

First experiences show that Nothing Chats works almost normally but lacks some interesting features of iMessage, such as Tapback features, the ability to edit messages.

Normally, Apple will use technical or legal barriers to block integrated applications of this type. But the company is being investigated by Europe to see whether iMessage is a proprietary service or not. Apple will have to open iMessage to create opportunities for third parties, if it is included in the exclusive service category.
