OneDrive launches file protection for Windows 10 users

New update of the OneDrive storage application helps sync desktops, images, documents on multiple PCs and increases data security.

The former feature called Folder Move helps create a protected folder and allows users to automatically sync Desktop files and Pictures and Documents folders that are now available to everyone using OneDrive.Previously, you could only sync files, folders located on OneDrive.

The Microsoft representative said that although it has been launched for business users since June, this feature is now available to all users of OneDrive on Windows 10.

This feature is not enabled by default.Windows 10 users who have not updated to the latest OneDrive version can turn on using the following steps:

  1. Open the OneDrive settings by clicking the left mouse button on the OneDrive icon in the system tray and selecting More> Settings.
  2. Switch to the Auto Save tab in the Settings window.
  3. Select Update Folders under Protect your important files.
  4. Select at least one of the folders in the new window and turn on 'start protection'.OneDrive will show each folder size and free space on OneDrive.

When needed, reopen that window to start or stop folder synchronization. Most file types are synchronized but Microsoft notes that some file types will not be able to sync automatically even if placed in the aforementioned supported folders, which is Outlook's database file (. pst) and OneNote files are not saved on OneDrive (.one, .onepkg, .onetoc, .onetoc2).

Other restrictions that users need to keep in mind:

  1. A file with a maximum size of 20 GB.
  2. The file name cannot start with a space, does not contain the characters: / *?<> "|
  3. File path must be less than 520 characters in Windows 10 and less than 260 characters in Windows 7.
  4. The nodes and symbolic links will be ignored.

Protect and sync folders with OneDrive

Auto Save has 2 options that make your OneDrive user favorite. The first is to save photos and videos automatically to OneDrive when phones, cameras and other similar devices connect to the PC.The second is to save the screenshot automatically to OneDrive.

Both of these features are not enabled by default, you must manually turn on in the Auto Save section of the OneDrive settings section.

Currently users can only synchronize the above directories so if you want to sync files in other folders, there is a way to use symbolic links.
