Decide if you really need an "unlimited" data plan. You probably don't use that much mobile data, especially if your device is constantly connected to Wi-Fi. You'll save a lot of money if you switch to a limited data plan that's enough to cover your average usage needs.

You can track your data usage during the month to see what the average is. On Android, open the "Data usage" section in the Settings app. As for iOS, you can see your mobile data usage in the "Cellular" section of the Settings app.

Use the website to compare available data plans. There are many websites that aggregate all mobile data plans for easy comparison. This is helpful in deciding which package is most suitable for you. Popular data plan comparison websites include:

Carefully read the "unlimited" package information. Unlimited data packages often come with notes, mostly about speed limits. Some unlimited plans will run faster than per-GB plans, while others will increase speeds after you use a certain amount of data. These data packages are considered not worth the money if it takes up to a minute for you to download any website. Carefully check the details of your "unlimited" plan to see if there are any issues you should consider.

Make sure you choose a mobile data plan with good coverage. You should choose a carrier with high coverage density in the area. An unlimited plan will be a waste if you can't get a signal when you go out.
