However, many people do not know that Microsoft Edge also has a menu of flags, it is not widely publicized because Microsoft does not want users to change the settings that could lead to their system failure. But with a little trick, you can become Edge's chess master. Like Chrome, if you change these settings correctly, you'll notice a significant change while surfing the web. Here are some hidden settings that will improve your Edge browser.
How to access the flags menu in Edge
To access the flags menu in Microsoft Edge, open the browser and type about: flags in the address bar and press Enter .
When the first menu appears, you will see the Developer Settings and Standards Preview sections . To access the full list of flags, press Ctrl + Shift + D , then restart the browser for these changes to take effect.
Warning: The menu flags settings are trial settings, primarily for developers. Therefore, it may not work as expected or disappear without warning.
The settings help speed up Microsoft Edge browser
1. WebRTC
WebRTC is an open source project that allows websites to run real-time video and audio using peer-to-peer (P2P) communication, according to the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) standard.
In other words, it allows voice calls, video chat, P2P file sharing and other related activities without plugins or third-party applications.
However, there is a problem here, by default, your IP address will be visible to everyone who is connected to you. To fix this, go to Developer Settings> Hide my local IP address over WebRTC connections .
2. TCP Fast Open
TCP Fast Open is a TCP protocol extension. Simply put, TCP is a web standard that allows applications on the computer to set up and maintain a network connection. It ensures that the bytes exchange reliably and without errors.
TCP Fast Open speeds up TCP connections by using a cryptographic cookie, allowing data exchange during the initial handshake of TCP, reducing initial delays.
If both the client and the web server support TCP Fast Open, you will see websites uploading 10% faster. Some reports even claim these improvements help the site load up to 40% fast. To turn on TCP Fast Open, go to Diagnostics> Networking> Enable TCP Fast Open and select Always on from the drop-down menu.
3. Render Throttling
Render Throttling is the first JavaScript flags in two JavaScript flags in this list. Along with CSS and HTML, JavaScript is one of the three main languages used in web design, allowing interactive websites.

It sounds great, but JavaScript when working can significantly reduce battery life. One solution to this problem is to enable the render throttling tab by visiting Diagnostics> JavaScript and checking the box next to Allow the render pipeline to be throttled to improve battery life .
4. Low-Power Tabs
The second JavaScript flags worth mentioning is the low power mode for background tabs, which will improve the performance of the currently used tabs.
This tweak is especially useful when dealing with websites with lots of JavaScript ads and analytics scripts. This setting will limit the CPU power used for these tabs and thus speed up the browser and battery life. To turn on this flag, navigate to Diagnostics> JavaScript> Allow tab background to put into low-power mode .
Note that the installation may have an adverse effect on tabs that need to run wide background processes. For example, you may see a delay, or asynchronous message.
5. Disable Microsoft compatibility list
Millions of websites use old technology, so the website you visit may be in it.
If the platform technology is too old, the modern web browser will not be able to display the content. To fix this problem, Microsoft has developed a "compatible list". If the site is on this list, Edge will adjust the code to display the page.
But there is a question, how to update this list? Will Microsoft check and update this list? And what if the website has been updated but still on this list? Therefore, you may not want to use this list because some website elements are not displayed correctly. To disable the list, go to Developer Settings> Use Microsoft Compatibility List .
How to reset flags in Edge
If one of the flags you have activated causes problems, but is not sure which setting caused the error, the easiest solution is to reset all flags to the default state and start over.
Performing reset flags is easy, just access the flags menu by entering about: flags in the address bar and simply click the Reset all flags to default button at the top of the window.
Turn off Flags menu in Edge
Disabling the flags menu can prevent users from accidentally accessing this menu and changing the configured configuration.
To turn off the flags menu, you will need to use Registry Editor, note that if you change the settings in the wrong registry, it may lead to system instability. Carefully check the changes before continuing and perform registry backup in case something goes wrong.
Press Windows + R , type regedit , and press Enter . Next, navigate to the following key:
ComputerHKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREPoliciesMicrosoft
Right-click Microsoft and go to New> Key , name it MicrosoftEdge. Now right click on MicrosoftEdge and again navigate to New> Key again , name it Main .
Select Main and right-click on the control panel on the right hand side of the screen, select New> DWORD (32-bit) Value and name it PreventAccessToAboutFlagsInMicrosoftEdge and a value of 1.
To reverse the process, delete the newly created PreventAccessToAboutFlagsInMicrosoftEdge value.
