How to turn off chat on Gmail

In order to help users to use Gmail more conveniently, not only send messages but also chat with friends, the Hangout application has been integrated into Gmail by default. Thanks to that, you can chat with anyone on Gmail, not just friends but some strangers.

However, this Hangout application has not really met the needs of users, or may be bothered by strangers so many people want to turn off chat mode on Gmail. Since this is the default built-in Gmail application, you can only turn off chat on Gmail, but not completely delete it.

Instructions for removing chat items on Gmail

If you leave the Chat section by default, in the leftmost corner we will see the accounts that you have contacted on Gmail.

Step 1:

After logging in to your personal Gmail account, click on the gear icon and click on Settings .

Step 2:

Next in this new interface, navigate to Chat settings and click.

Then there will be 2 options: Chat on open chat on Gmail and Chat off off chat on Gmail. Users click on Chat off to turn off chat on Gmail. Click Save Changes to save the changes.

Now Gmail will automatically reload and you will not see the chat account that has ever been contacted on Gmail appears on the left interface. When clicking on Chat on Gmail will not see the Open Hangout button as before.

If you want to re-enable chat on Gmail, users just need to go to Chat and click Chat on.

If you don't like being bothered by people you don't know when sending messages on Gmail, you can turn off chat on Gmail. When chatting is turned off, we will no longer receive any chat content on Gmail.
