The search giant has added voice and video chat features to its famous webmail service. Google's move to compete with rivals, including eBay's Skype VoIP voice service.
Gmail users and Google App can now make video calls to their friends and also send IM instant messages to that person in the Google Chat dialog box. Of course, the indispensable part of this service is a webcam and a small plug-in of the web browser.
The video call screen will appear in the chat box and can be moved across the user's computer screen. Users can also resize it like Yahoo Messenger IM chat window.
Video conferencing is not a new idea. EBay's Skype VoIP voice service is so popular with Internet users. However, this new feature will help Google make a difference from free e-mail providers, like Yahoo.
