How to open, run the .jar file on a Windows computer?
To open a .jar file on a Windows computer you will have to install the Java Runtime Environment (JRE). Alternatively, you can use decompression software to view the files attached to the .jar file. 1. Run the .jar file (Java Runtime Environment)
To run the .jar file on a Windows computer you need to download and install the Java Runtime Environment (JRE).
- Download Java Runtime Environment to your computer and install it here.
After you've downloaded Java Runtime Environment, you can run any .jar file by double-clicking on the file name.
Note that this solution only applies to opening the executable .jar file. If the .jar file has not been executed, you can view the file in it.
- If you double click on the .jar file without displaying the file file being executed or running, it is possible that the .jar file has not been executed and cannot be applied.
2. View files (compressed)
To view files in the .jar file, you can rely on the support of compression / decompression software that works with .jar files, such as 7-Zip or WinRAR.
- Download 7-Zip to your computer and install it here.
- Download WinRAR to your computer and install it here.
Once the installation is complete, you can use the software to open the .jar file and extract the files inside the .jar file.
Once the files have been decompressed, you can view each file one by one by clicking on each file.
Note:
If the .jar file by default is opened with programs like WinRAR, 7-Zip, but you want to open the file .jar with another compression / decompression program, you can then change the default file opening program. .jar by right-clicking the file, selecting Open with and selecting Choose default program .
On the Open with window, click the Browse button to open the File Explorer window.
And you must find the executable file (.exe file) of the software program you want to set as the default program to open the .jar file.
