Install Kali Linux in reduced version
If installing Kali Linux is a compact version, you will have to download all the necessary packages from the repository, which means you need to have a fast Internet connection to use this installation method.
Prerequisite installation conditions
- Minimum disk capacity of 20 GB for Kali Linux installation.
- RAM for i386 and amd64 structures, at least 1GB, but we recommend 2GB or more.
- Support booting CD-DVD / USB
Prepare for installation
- Download Kali amd64 mini ISO or ISO mini i386.
- Burn Kali Linux ISO to DVD or Kali Linux Live Image to USB.
- Make sure your computer is set to boot from the CD / USB in the BIOS.
Procedures for installing Kali Linux
When you start the compact version of Kali Linux with mini ISO, you will see a small boot menu with different options. For this article, we will only perform a basic installation.

Next, you will need to select the time zone, when you will see the partitioning options. To start and run quickly, we will use ' Guided - use entire disk ' and follow the instructions until we create a new partition setup.
To reduce network bandwidth, a small group of packages will be selected by default. If you want to add different services or features, this is the area you will make your choices.
At this point, the installer will download all the packages it requires, then install them on the system. Depending on the speed of your Internet connection, this may take some time. Finally, you will be prompted to install GRUB to finish the installation.
