Part 1 of 4:

Starting the Sketch

    Create a new file. Single click on the New icon. It is in the standard toolbar area.

    Set up the units. Select the Millimeters units and select Model in the template list.

    Save the file. Type ArchimedesScrew.prt in the new file name section and press OK. This is just an example; you can name it in a different way.

    Click on Sketch and left click OK to accept the default setting of the sketch plane.

Creating a Cylindrical Shaft

    Select the circle tool from the toolbar, click the point in blue and select the Existing Point-Sketch Origin as the center of the circle.

    Press Backspace, type 25 in the on-screen input box and press Enter. Click on Finish Sketch.

    Click Extrude, move the cursor to the circle. As you move the cursor over the circle, its color changes to orange. Set Start Limit Value to 0 mm and End Limit Value to 150 mm in the Extrude dialog box. Left click OK to create the Extrude feature.

    Move from the Home tab to the Curve tab and select the Helix command.

    Change the value of Size, Pitch, and Length to 50mm, 20mm, and 150mm. Left click OK to apply the settings.

Creating a Profile of the Screw

    Click on Sketch, select XZ plane of Datum Coordinate and left click OK.

    Select the Arc tool under the Curve tab.

    Select Start Point-Spline of Helix. Start the arc from the endpoint of the helix spline.

    Specify a section string. Select the arc you created (SKETCH_001:Sketch(4)). Double-click to reverse the direction (optional).

    Specify a guide string. Select Helix.

    Choose an orientation method. Select Face Normals in the drop-down menu.

    Select Cylinder as the face. Left click OK to finish this command.
  11. Click on Surface, click More and select Thicken in the drop-down menu. The thicken dialog box will appear as shown in the screenshot in step 12. The difference between two offset parameters is the overall thickness of the resultant body.
