Regularly changing passwords is also a safeguard when surfing the Net

1. Make sure your operating system is updated automatically and the firewall is turned on.

2. Use security programs including anti-virus and spyware software and subscribe to these software updates.

3. Scan the entire machine at least once a month.

4. Do not open attachments or click on links in emails from people you do not know.

5. Use passwords of at least 8 characters or numbers and symbols and frequently change them.

6. Access the Internet through a router, it is a hidden firewall for you so bots (software applications that run online automation tasks) cannot directly access your computer. OK.

7. Don't use the same password for all accounts, and use more complex passwords for important transactions such as bank accounts.

8. Do not connect to the Internet using a wireless network without a password.

9. Don't send sensitive information to a Web site without starting with 'http', the phrase 'http' means it is protected.

10. When you receive an email, think about whether it is actually from a intended sender or an impostor before acting.
