10 ways to increase download speed of Torrent
Imagine you were on a freeway with a gradual acceleration and then suddenly realized that you were running a badly damaged car. Such difficult circumstances are not too rare on the information highway.
Imagine you were on a freeway with a gradual acceleration and then suddenly realized that you were running a badly damaged car. Such difficult circumstances are not too rare on the information highway .
Torrent users will realize the fact that half of their time is spent searching for " clean " torrents and the other half trying to download at the greatest speed.
If you are one of those who think your torrent download speed may increase, read on. Below, you will find some tips to speed up torrent download.
1. ISP - starting point
Check the maximum download and upload speeds allowed by your ISP. Most ISPs have specific bandwidths for both upload and download. It is clear that your torrent download speed will not be able to pass the level set by the ISP. There are many bandwidth testing tools like DSLReports , which also include the ability to check the speed with uTorrent.
2. Choose the right BitTorrent client
Use better clients like uTorrent, Vuze or BitTorrren clients. These clients should always be updated to the latest version.
3. Seed and peer
A peer is any computer that participates in the download and upload of a torrent file. A seed (or seeder) is anyone who has finished copying a file that is shared via the torrent network. A leech (or a leecher) is someone who has no completed files but joins that network to download it. A leecher becomes a seeder when he downloads that file and then shares it via the torrent network.
With high torrent speeds, good guesses are in numbers. The number of seeders is larger, the torrent network is stronger and better with the opportunity to get higher speeds. We should choose torrent files with a high number of seeders and preferably lower leechers.
4. Firewall
The firewall can block all BitTorrent input connections. In contrast, to ensure, a firewall should be manually configured to accept connections and allow it through that client. Windows XP has the default Windows Firewall. Configure this firewall to accept connections by checking the BitTorrent client on the allowed list.Options -> Preferences -> Connection -> tick Add uTorrent to Windows Firewall . Also, check the Windows Firewall exception (if you want to turn it on) in your client.
Note : If the home computer is behind a router, it should also be configured via a feature called Port Range Forwarding to allow torrent traffic .
5. Limit your upload rate
A peer to peer network, all sharing is similar, but the upload and download rates are unlimited. Check the speed, find the maximum upload speed and then set your client upload rate to about 80% of the maximum upload speed. You can also try different upload speeds - keep the original speed high and then reduce it to about half the download speed.
Note : it is important to remember that speed unit - it can be kilobits per second (kb / sec) or kilobytes per second (kB / sec). 1kilobyte = 8 kilobit .
6. Go to another port
The default port for the BitTorrent protocol is any port in the range of 6881-6999. ISPs regulate traffic on these ports as BitTorrent sharing includes high bandwidth usage. It's easy to configure another port in your torrent client. Use some over 10000 to pass ISPs and also avoid problems with other applications. By default, the uTorrent port is random every time it starts. Set a specific port by not allowing to set Randomize Port .
7. Increase the number of Max Half Open TCP connections
This number specifies how many connections a torrent client tries to set up at the same time at any time. Windows XP with Service Pack 2 (SP2) or newer, the default limit is 10 as a barrier against virus spread. But it is a low figure for torrent speed, torrent needs a large number of concurrent connections.
A patch is available to change the TCPIP.sys file in Windows to allow a higher number of TCP connections.
After running the patch, you must set up the connection number in your torrent client, in uTorrent go to Options -> Preferences -> Advanced -> net.max_halfopen . Set any number from 50 to 100. But we see that net.max_halfopen is set lower than the setting value in TCPIP.SYS . Always check if it is because sometimes Windows updates will overwrite it.
8. Experiment with protocol encryption
Some ISPs like Big Brothers limit bandwidth for P2P protocols. Protocol encryption in most torren clients helps to override this bandwidth arrangement.
Enable encryption of the protocol and check Allow Incoming Legacy Connections .
With protocol encryption, ISPs find it difficult to detect traffic coming from BitTorrent. Experiment with enable, disable or other options because you can do better with disabled encryption. No encryption makes a torrent connection more compatible with someone who doesn't use encryption, but as a subtraction it makes the torrent network detectable by an ISP with bandwidth-limiting policies.
9. Bandwidth and connection
The option to install your BitTorrent client will allow you to enter the numbers:
- Global maximum number of connections for the maximum number of connections that a BitTorrent client can create for any P2P exchange. This setting is too high does not mean higher speeds but will be useless bandwidth consumption. With the 236 kpbs connection, we set it to 130.
- Number of per-torrent upload slots for the largest number of peers that a BitTorrent client will upload to any P2P exchange. A low setting may affect the download process.
uTorrent has a Speed Guid convenient for calculating numbers with a special connection.
10. Some common circumstances
Most BitTorrent clients allow us to view individual files during a download session. You can choose to disable the download of the file that you think is unnecessary.
