A Texas startup (USA) is testing wearable devices to replace the inconvenient virtual keyboard on mobile devices.

Typing on mobile devices like tablets and ' crickets ' is not an easy experience, not to mention inconvenient and frustrating. A startup in Austin ( Texas ) may have found a way to solve this tough problem: completely remove the keyboard on the device.

The AirType project , which type of air, is currently in beta and is a keyboard but not a keyboard. It allows users to type on any plane, or even without touching the surface.

Unlike image projection keyboards, which use virtual keyboard images projected on a flat surface, AirType does not include a virtual projection image. Instead, the AirType system uses a pair of hand-inserted sensors, which can track finger movements to guess the key the user wants to type.

According to Mashable , the system can be equipped with technology to adapt to the individual, which means learning to adjust user habits, similar to how voice recognition software is trained to Identify the pronunciation of each person.
