The latest iPhone emojis on iOS 17.4

Emojis are one of the best ways to express yourself, and every year Apple adds new emojis to iOS to give users more ways to react online.

Brand new emoji in iOS 17.4

The new emojis are one of many features included in the iOS 17.4 update. Although Apple released 118 new emojis with iOS 17.4 and iPadOS 17.4 in March 2024, the six emojis below are brand new ones that most people will be excited to try out.

Green lemon slice

 Lime is a popular emoji request around the world - so much so that a Mexican restaurant, Lime Fresh Mexican Grill, started a petition on Change.org asking for such an emoji.

So if you've ever made a dish that included green lemons but ended up using the yellow lemon emoji to represent it, you'll be happy to know that iOS finally has the emoji you need.

Brown mushrooms

Another emoji from the Food & Drink category that the Unicode Consortium approved in 2023 is the brown mushroom emoji. While the red and white mushroom emoji is a fan favorite, the new emoji is a more realistic mushroom symbol.

Phoenix

Apple also introduced emoji for the phoenix, a famous creature in Greek mythology. This emoji symbolizes rebirth.

The chain is broken

If you're trying to represent a broken bond with a symbol, you may find yourself searching for an appropriate emoji. Luckily, iOS 17.4 includes a broken chain emoji.

Shake your head horizontally

You'll also find two new iOS emojis in the smileys category. One of them is the horizontal head shaking emoji, which is definitely the perfect way to say no to something calmly!

Want to tell your friends that you're having fun hanging out with them without having to type? Well, now you can just send them the vertical head shaking emoji and call it a day!

4 new family emojis

After updating your iPhone to iOS 17.4 or iPad to iPadOS 17.4, you'll find four gender-neutral family emojis. Here are the available combinations:

  4. Adults, Adults, Children, Children

New emoji variations in iOS 17.4

Aside from the six brand new emoji concepts and the gender-neutral family emoji, the remaining 108 emoji are slight variations of existing options.

Although you could find these emojis before updating to iOS 17.4, you'll notice that the emojis you have are all facing left. With the release of iOS 17.4, Apple introduced the following right-facing emojis:

  1. Walker
  2. Kneeling person
  3. People running
  4. Person holding a white stick
  5. Person sitting in manual wheelchair
  6. People in motorized wheelchairs

All of these emojis are available with three gender options and five different skin tones. To access the new emojis, simply update your iPhone or iPad to iOS 17.4 or iPadOS 17.4.
