Summary of The Umbrella Academy - Umbrella Academy season 1 and 2

Season 3 of Umbrella Academy will return this June on the Netflix streaming platform. In case you have forgotten what happened in the first two parts of the movie, let's review the content of the movie.

Things that happened in season 1

The birth of 43 special children

On October 1, 1989, 43 women around the world who had never been pregnant gave birth to 43 children. These are said to be children with special powers.

Reginald Hargreeves founded Umbrella Academy

Billionaire and possibly alien Reginald Hargreeves has adopted 7 out of 43 special children. He founded the Umbrella Academy and raised these children to become a group of child superheroes specializing in fighting crime. He named his children with numbers instead of the usual names.

Luther - Number One with super strength

Reginald sent him to the moon for four years on a mission. However, in season 1, we can see that the mission is fake. That mission was created just to make Luther feel purposeful in life after an accident from a previous mission that nearly killed him. Reginald had to inject a serum that turned Luther's body into a gorilla form to save him.

Luther felt ashamed of his body and tried to hide it as much as possible, especially from Allison, whom he had feelings for.

Diego - Number Two with the ability to manipulate objects

Number Two has always lived like Number One's shadow, so he always wanted to be able to become the leader of the group.

Throughout the first season, Diego is always trying to find out about the death of his father - Reginald. Besides, he also mourns the death of Grace - the robot that always acts as the mother of Umbrella Academy.

Allison - Number Three has the ability to manipulate voice.

After leaving the academy, Allison became a famous actor. However, she was forced to divorce her husband after being discovered trying to use her powers on daughter Claire.

In season 1, Allison longed to be reunited with Claire. In addition, she has an emotional relationship with Luther as well as giving a lot of attention to the youngest, Vanya. When Allison realized that her father had made her use her powers to manipulate Vanya as a child, she felt extremely guilty. At the end of the season, Vanya attacked Allison causing her to lose both her voice and her powers.

Klaus - Number Four has the ability to communicate with the dead

In the first season, Klaus was kidnapped and tortured by Hazel and ChaCha before being able to escape with their time travel device. Then he accidentally travels to the war in Vietnam. Klaus was at that 10 months mark and fell in love with another soldier named Dave, who later died in the war. When Klaus returned to the present, he was quite affected by what he went through.

Number Five - One who can travel through space and time

Five used his ability to travel to the future when he was only 13 years old. When he reached the future, in front of him was a post-apocalyptic world, devoid of people.

Number Five has been alone in the future world for many years. His only companion is the mannequin he named Delores. During his time stuck in the future, he always finds a way to return to his family.

One day, a woman known as Handler of the Commission tasked with maintaining the timeline and making sure the end of the world will happen, appeared in front of Number Five. She offers to help Number Five get back to his family, but he needs to work for the Commission.

As a result, Number Five became a time assassin, unleashing attacks across the timeline at the behest of the Commission. Right before he assassinated John F. Kennedy, he found a way to return to his family and decided to give up the mission.

However, Number Five makes a mistake, time travel back to his family causes him to revert back to his 13-year-old form instead of his actual 60-year-old form.

During season 1, Number Five tries to prevent the apocalypse and evade the pursuit of two agents from the Commission, Hazel and ChaCha. In the end, Number Five destroyed most of the time travel devices at the Commission as well as injuring Handler.

Handler later recovered from her injuries, but was shot by Hazel when she wanted to leave the Commission and be with the woman he loved, Agnes. Hazel and Agnes were able to time travel right before the end of the world while ChaCha couldn't escape.

Ben - Number Six who died early

The character is known to have died before the first season of the series began. However, thanks to Klaus' strength, we can still see his appearance in the movie.

Throughout the first season, almost only Klaus has the ability to see Ben. However, at the end of season 1, when Klaus comes to his senses, the two realize that they can connect with each other through Klaus' body. Thus Klaus was able to make Ben visible.

Ben's power is known to be able to open up to another dimension inside his body. Through it he was able to unleash tentacle-shaped monsters.

Vanya - Number Seven with the ability to turn sound into energy

Throughout her childhood, Vanya thought she didn't have any powers, unlike the other siblings. In fact, when Vanya was 4 years old, Reginald considered her powers to be highly destructive and too dangerous. Because of that, he made Vanya take medicine to control her emotions, due to her power being affected by her emotions. At the same time he forces Allison to hypnotize Vanya, making her believe that she is just a normal person.

However, this made Vanya insecure, feeling isolated. As an adult, she wrote a book about Umbrella Academy and stories about her family that made her even more distant from them.

In season 1, Vanya befriends a man named Leonard Peabody - whose real name is Harold Jenkins. He is someone who is obsessed with having the same birthday as the Umbrella Academy members but has no powers. He discovers the truth about Vanya's powers and pushes her to unlock her powers in order to take down the Academy.

After injuring Allison, Vanya discovers that Leonard used Reginald's diary to manipulate her. Vanya killed Leonard. She then sought refuge with family members, but Luther knocked her unconscious and locked her in a soundproof room, believing she would endanger everyone. Feeling alone and betrayed again, Vanya used the sounds of her heartbeat and converted them into energy to escape the room.

Vanya destroys Umbrella Academy

Vanya frees herself from the room, completely destroying the Umbrella Academy and causing the deaths of Pogo and Grace. She then headed to the Icarus theater to participate in a concert performance.

Here, she developed her great strength through playing the violin. The remaining members realize that Vanya's increasing power and unstable mental state can cause the apocalypse. Therefore, they joined forces to defeat her. However, when Allison put a gun to Vanya's ear, she accidentally released her power, causing a large amount of energy to be released and launched straight into the moon.

This causes the moon to be destroyed and towards Earth. The apocalypse has begun, Number Five has no choice but to use his powers to send the entire siblings back in time to prevent the apocalypse.

This act of Number Five brings it all back to the 1960s.

Umbrella Academy season 2 timeline

Season 2 of Umbrella Academy begins with members being scattered throughout the 1960s. So to make it easier for you to grasp the content of season 2, we'll recap the events in line. time.

1960

Klaus and Ben fall down an alley in Dallas, Texas after Number Five takes them all back in time, fleeing the apocalypse in 2019. Despite their best efforts, all of the members failed to land there. same date, but with a difference of several years.

Luther appeared in the alley in 1962 and tried in vain to find his family until realizing he had lost them again. After being isolated on the moon, he couldn't accept this happening again. Therefore, he followed Jack Ruby and became a boxer of the underworld.

That same year, Reginald conducted experiments on the chimpanzee Pogo with the help of a colleague named Grace, who became the model for creating the robot Grace to take care of seven Umbrella Academy members.

September 1, 1963

Diego accidentally realized that there were only a few months left until the assassination of John F. Kennedy. That's why he frantically searched for a way to change history and save John F. Kennedy.

Around this same time, Klaus became bored with his cult and decided to return to Dallas to find the rest of his family. He also tries to find a way to reunite with his lover, Dave.

October 12, 1963

This is the timeline that Vanya landed after the time travel shot. As soon as she reached the alley, she was still feeling dizzy with all the events that had just happened in 2019. Just as she was leaving the alley, Vanya was hit by a woman named Sissy and lost her mind. miss. Since then Vanya has been with Sissy and her son. After a while, Vanya and Sissy fell in love.

November 15, 1963

After Number Five witnessed the nuclear holocaust on November 25, Hazel appeared and promptly rescued him and brought him back in time 10 days before, on November 15. Thanks to that, Number Five has time to restore the timeline, correct the mistake that caused the apocalypse and save the world.

Number Five is quickly reunited with Diego, who is locked in a mental hospital, and Luther, who is fighting in the ring of the underworld. Both Luther and Diego agreed to help Number Five in saving the world.

The main events of season 2 mainly take place in about 10 days from November 15. Around this time also took place the members' dinner with Reginald in an effort to prevent the apocalypse. They also realized that their father was involved in the assassination of John F. Kennedy.

November 22, 1963

Diego has left the timeline to go to the Commission. There he tried to break into the control system to track down the day John F. Kennedy was assassinated. Diego still hopes to change history. However, he discovers that history has been altered. Just before Kennedy was historically killed, the nearby FBI building exploded. This caused Kennedy's convoy to change its route to safety. The explosion was blamed on the Soviet side and caused a nuclear war. However, the cause of the explosion was due to Vanya having an explosive temper and losing control.

Diego turns to his siblings to find a way to stop Vanya's explosion. During this time, Ben discovers he has a new power that allows him to connect with Vanya in a way that the other siblings failed in the previous season. His love for Vanya helped prevent her from losing control and stopping the explosion. This means that the timeline returns to the original, Kennedy was assassinated according to fate despite Diego's efforts.

November 25, 1963

This is the time when Number Five fell after teleporting in 2019. There was a war with nuclear bombs that made Number Five almost lost his life but Hazel was able to save him.

February 21, 1968

This is the day that is said to be Dave - Klaus' lover who died in Vietnam. Although it was not shown in the movie, at the time Dave was about to enlist, Klaus appeared and tried to convince him not to join the army. However, Klaus' plan completely failed, Dave enlisted earlier than expected due to Klaus' intervention. Will Klaus' intervention change Dave's fate somewhat?

1982

Around this time, Number Five traveled to Wisconsin and destroyed the entire board of the Commission at Handler's orders. The reward for this quest is that he will get the briefcase to bring all of his siblings back in 2019. Number Five comforts himself in this act that if he doesn't, his family will cannot return to the present and the world will end.

1993

During one of his missions, Number Five killed Lila's parents. Handler later adopted Lila and taught her to be an assassin. It was later revealed that Lila was also one of 43 children with superpowers born on October 1, 1989.

April 2, 2019

After saving the world in the past, the Hargreeves siblings leave the 1960s and return to 2019. They arrive on April 2, 2019, 1 day after the end of the world. The group was overjoyed when they realized the world was still intact. However, they quickly realized something was wrong. With the turmoil they caused in the past, their father Reginald decided to choose other children and create the Sparrow Academy.
