Samsung will soon support Linux on both mobile and computer
Samsung announced that it will soon have a real Linux phone on the Note 8, Galaxy S8, S8 + and even on Linux computers.
We still know Android is built on Linux. Samsung said it is creating an application called Linux on Galaxy, allowing users to 'run Linux kernels they want on mobile, taking advantage of the Linux kernel that Android OS uses'.
'Whenever you need to use a feature that mobile OS doesn't support, you can switch to running this application and run it in the Linux OS environment,' Samsung said. The application also allows multiple OS to run on one device.
To use Linux on a computer, users need to connect the phone to Dex Station, the device turns Galaxy S8 and S8 + into computers when connected to the DeX smart dock and external monitor.
There will be real Linux phones
Samsung thinks developers are the market for Linux on Galaxy, because that means they 'get a full-featured development environment with all the advantages of the desktop, at any time and any where? ' Samsung's announcement implies that developers will 'code by phone and with Samsung DeX, then continue work on the big screen'.
It is not known when Linux on Galaxy officially launched. Samsung says they are still "in the process of development" and users can sign up for email notifications if interested.https://seap.samsung.com/linux-on-galaxy
Maybe many Linux users want to run their favorite distribution on the phone. But the idea of code developers on Linux with a 5inch screen looks a bit far-fetched. Laptops today are also quite good and there is an Android emulator on it, so I don't know what future they will choose.
