Microsoft patch prevents Windows 10 1903 and 1090 users from updating to newer versions

If you are unable to update Windows 10 1903 and / or 1909 to a newer version then here is the fix for you.

Microsoft has just fixed a bug that prevented users from updating Windows 10 1903 and 1909 to a newer version. This error appears after Microsoft rolled out optional updates KB4577062 for Windows 10 1903 and 1909 on September 16.

After installing KB4577062, users cannot update to newer versions of Windows 10 if the Internet HTTP access for LOCAL SYSTEM accounts is blocked by the firewall. This will prevent Windows 10 Setup Dynamic Update (DU) from downloading necessary update packages.

This issue affects both consumer computers (Windows 10 versions 1903 and 1909) and servers (Windows Server versions 1903 and 1909).

Other fixes

For those who are unable to install the KB4579919 update, Microsoft has a different solution. Specifically, users should re-enable HTTP Internert access for Windows 10 Setup Dynamic Update.

"If your device is locked out of HTTP for the LOCAL SYSTEM account you need to re-enable HTTP access for Windows 10 Setup Dynamic Update (DU) with the LOCAL SYSTEM account to solve the problem , " Microsoft wrote. "After granting access, you can restart the update installation without warning or problems."
