Instructions for playing co-op mode in Elden Ring
How to play multiplayer in Elden Ring
The co-op mode in Elden Ring supports up to 3 players at once, one Host of Fingers and two Golden Phantoms to assist them.
To play the co-op mode in Elden Ring, players will need to get through a few rounds first, as there are separate limits to set. The online multiplayer part of the game requires one player to act as the Host of Fingers, i.e. the host, and others will join the world as a virtual player, assisting the host in a effectively whatever they are doing.
To play with friends, both parties will need an internet connection on their console or computer. Then need to open the game menu and scroll down to Multiplayer.
Continue to select Settings and enter the password for the multiplayer mode. The password can be anything, as long as the participants enter it correctly. This password ensures that only people with the password can enter that world, not millions of other gamers.
The co-op setup is complete, any non-host should use a special item highlighted in the multiplayer menu called Small Golden Effigy.
If Small Golden Effigy is not available, return to the first area just outside the Stranded Graveyard, looking down at the Tree Sentinel. It will be there, based on the area's Martyr Effigy.
Then the host needs to find a small statue called Martyr Effigy, especially in the area that needs help. These are popular figurines with arms outstretched, often found at the entrance to dungeons or the outer boss battle arena.
Interact with it to open the summoning pool, revealing an icon that allows you to summon your friends who have used Small Golden Effigy with the matching password.
How co-op mode works in Elden Ring
The players brought in as the Golden Phantom weren't quite as powerful as they were in their own world. The number of Flasks is only half of normal, and the player's stats are often weakened to prevent two high-level characters from hitting the boss.
Co-op is also activated with a specific target in mind, aka the boss of the area. Anywhere the Host activates Matyr Effigy makes the whole thing a mission. For example, if the Host sends the player into Stormveil Castel, the goal is to defeat the boss Godrick the Grafted. Once completed, the mission ends and the Phantoms are returned to their own game.
Requirements to open co-op mode
Elden Ring's multiplayer mode unlocks after completing the tutorial, leaving the Stranded Graveyard into the grassy realm of Limgrave and the Lands Between. However, players should enable co-op mode based on goals and should explore together during those first few hours. However, look around to find Matyr Effigy and make notes to see where you can attract allies in difficult situations.
