Check your hard drive
Symptoms of a hard drive error include lost or corrupted data. You can check your hard drive for errors with the 'disk check' program in recent versions of Windows.

- Open My Computer by double clicking on it.
- Right-click the hard drive you want to check and select Properties .
- Go to the Tools tab and under Error-checking , click the Check button. In Windows 7, the button is named Check now .
- In Windows 8/10 can inform you that it did not find any errors on the drive. You can still perform a manual scan by clicking on ' Scan drive '.
- Check the box next to Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors .
- After Windows scans your drive, if no errors are found, you can simply click Close .
- Click Start to run the test.
Depending on the size of your hard drive, the program may take some time. After the program checks your hard drive is completed, you will receive a report and check for errors on your hard drive.
The error is an indication that the parts of your hard drive are damaged. Depending on the level, the data stored on the hard drive is no longer secure.
