How to Check Java Version on Mac
TipsMake today will show you how to check the Java version installed on Mac through customizing the System Preferences system, Java website or Terminal.
Through System Preferences
Click the icon in the upper left of the top menu bar. A menu will drop down.
Click System Preferences . This is the second option at the top of the drop-down menu.
Click the Java icon with a blue coffee cup emitting orange steam. When you click on it, the Java Control Panel will open in a new window.
If this icon is not present, the computer does not have Java installed.
Click the Update tab at the top. This screen will provide information about the version of Java you have and recommend whether you need to update.
If an update is available, follow the instructions to update to the latest recommended version of Java. You can also check the "Check for Automatic Updates" box so that Java always updates itself to the latest version if available.

Open the Safari browser on your Mac. The app has a blue compass icon.
Visit https://www.java.com/en/download/installed.jsp on Safari. Enter https://www.java.com/en/download/installed.jspin the address bar then press ⏎ Return.
Click Verify Java Version . This red button is in the middle of the page. A window may pop up asking if you want to launch Java on this page.
Click Run to confirm. The website will check the Java version you are running and recommend a new update if necessary.
Query information on Terminal
Click Spotlight in the upper right of the menu bar. An input bar will open allowing you to search your computer.
Type Terminalin the search bar. As you type, search results appear below the bar.
Double-click Terminal . The app has a small black frame icon with a white command prompt in the corner. The Mac Terminal will open.
Enter java -versionand press ⏎ Return. This command will tell you the Java version your Mac is using.
