Format background colors and characters in Word
The following article introduces you in detail how to format the background color and characters in Word.
Method 1: Use the standard toolbar.
- Select the Home tab -> in Font section to select necessary formats for characters including:
+ B: bold
+ I: italicize.
+ U: underline
+
: Select a dash style.+
: Format subscript and superscript.+
: Create effects for characters.+
: Create a background color for the characters+
: Create color for characters+
: Format in uppercase or lowercase for characters.+
: Zoom in, zoom out the character.+
: Delete all formatting of characters.
- For example, bold, italic format -> click on the B and I symbols -> results:
- For example, fill the background color with the character click on the Text icon hightlight color -> select the color to be filled:
- Fill the character -> click on the Font Color icon -> select the color to create for the character:

- Convert characters to uppercase -> click the Change Case icon -> select the type to convert:
Method 2: Use the Font dialog box.
- To use the Format Font dialog box for the characters that do the following:
Step 1: Go to the Home tab -> click on the arrow below the Font section :
Step 2: The Font dialog box appears including the following options:
- Font, Font Style, Size: Select a font, font style, font size for characters.
- Font Color: Select the color for characters.
- Section Underline style: The dash format, the color of the dash for characters.
- Effect section : Select effects for characters
In addition to creating many other effects for the character click on Text Effects -> choose the effect type for the character:

Method 3: Use the quick toolbar.
- Word 2013 supports a quick toolbar that allows users to quickly select different formats for characters. To quickly format characters -> select characters to format -> quick toolbar appears -> select different formats for characters on the quick toolbar:
