Windows and Android users can join FaceTime calls on iPhone and Mac computers

During the WWDC 2021 event taking place on June 8 (Vietnam time), Apple said that iOS 15 and macOS 11.2 Monterey will end the status of the FaceTime conversation tool as a 'privilege' of Apple ecosystem product users. .

Specifically, when these new operating systems are released, computer users with Windows 10 or phones / tablets with Google's Android operating system can easily join FaceTime calls. All they need is a link to join the 'meeting room' and any web browser. This is the same method as the current Zoom or Webex mechanism.

Thus, a new feature called FaceTime Link will now allow iPhone, iPad or Mac users to comfortably organize group meetings without caring if the participating member owns an 'Apple' device. or not.

Also in this update, FaceTime will be adding many important features such as call scheduling (allowing to send a link to the meeting room before the call takes place); adding a grid interface to help the chairperson easily track meeting participants; mode that only captures a single voice and eliminates all surrounding noise. SharePlay feature will allow call participants to watch the same TV show, movie or listen to the same music, or simply share the display.

Notably, the new FaceTime can also take advantage of the new Spatial Audio feature of iOS 15 to optimize sound quality in meetings with many participants through a single receiver. Along with that, the image of the person speaking will appear clearer on the blurred background (similar to the Portrait mode of the iPhone camera). According to Apple, this combination helps reduce stress in meetings, avoiding the situation where the user's brain is always stressed to process many different audio sequences at the same time while having to monitor too many confusing details on the screen. .

According to experts, these upgrades of FaceTime come at the right time in the context of Apple's conversational service, which has long been appreciated for its sound and image quality, but has no support features. Calls are crowded with members, and there is a shortage of meeting facilities. This fact has created a vacuum that has allowed rival tools to quickly capture a huge market share, with millions of new users every month for the past time.
