Why You Shouldn't Trust AI to Generate Personalized Content?
Artificial intelligence (AI) is a great tool for idea generation, but many people don't trust it to create personalized long-form content. In my experience, even some of the best tools have limitations in these areas.
1. AI lacks unique experiences
While the content generated needs to be informative, it also needs to have some personality. AI is pretty good at recalling information that already exists, but it doesn't have personal experiences.
This is one of the many reasons why content writers shouldn't rely on AI chatbots. If you must use AI to create personalized content, you'll still need to edit it later. This applies to both long-form articles and social media posts.
2. People only want to write about topics they have expertise in.
When you know and are passionate about a topic, you know when someone has no experience with what they are talking about. A big problem with ChatGPT and other AI chatbots is that they always give answers that sound so convincing that many people think that what they are getting is completely accurate. But that is not the case; at the very least, you should review the answers the AI gives.
3. AI is often factually inaccurate
Whether you're a writer, podcast host, or another form of content creation, factual accuracy is essential to your credibility. While AI tools like Perplexity can help you research more efficiently, you still need to double-check that everything you publish is accurate.
The fact that AI often makes mistakes is reason enough not to rely on it to generate personalized content. In the worst case, inaccurate content could lead to legal action against you.
If you plan on using AI for fact-checking, you should take courses like Google's AI Essentials program. That way, you'll know exactly how to conduct your research.
4. AI Can't Write in Your Voice
When you experiment with Claude Artifact and ChatGPT Canvas, you'll find it's pretty easy to change the tone of your writing. You can move the slider up or down depending on how you want the tone to sound. However, these chatbots still can't write in your exact voice.
Instead of editing your tone in these apps, it's much easier to just write as you normally would and adjust your text later. AI tools like Grammarly can help with this, but even then, all of their suggestions aren't foolproof.
Tone is something that develops over time, so don't worry if you're a new writer. The best advice is to write the way you would talk in conversation, then adjust your writing as needed later.
5. Relying on AI makes people complacent
In creative fields, relying on AI can be a bit of a bummer. AI promises to be a universal tool. You write a prompt, wait a few minutes, and you get an article, video, or whatever. Sounds like a dream, right?
This is where you need to think about how AI chatbots impact content creation. If you rely too much on these tools without making any changes, the quality of your work will eventually suffer. You may get results in the short term, but there will be long-term consequences.
Instead of relying solely on AI, focus more on how you can use it to complement your skills. Using AI to generate ideas is by far the best way to do this.
6. Improve yourself as a creator
Learning how to use AI tools as a creator is one way, but it's not the only way to improve your content creation skills. Learn how to string sentences together, improve your search engine optimization (SEO), and all the other aspects that make a great digital creator.
7. AI content is often generic
You need to find a way to stand out if you want people to discover your work. And this is another problem you run into when you trust AI to create personalized content. A lot of the stuff people create with AI is pretty generic and you can tell right away when you read it.
While you should enjoy the challenge of creating your own content, don't post something you can find somewhere else. Even if it's a topic that's been discussed a thousand times before, it should be original content.
8. AI content is often considered plagiarism
The ease with which AI content can be copied doesn't just make for a lot of similar content. In more serious cases, you can commit plagiarism without even realizing it.
When creating any type of content using AI, you are getting information that is already available online. This is not always re-worded and may lack originality, and it is also possible that someone else has posted similar content before you.
Issues like these are why some people don't think AI should be in any creative apps or software. It's important that even if you use AI for inspiration, your content remains original. Otherwise, you could face serious consequences.
While AI has some advantages when it comes to content creation, don't trust it to create personalized content from scratch. You can take inspiration from existing content and make it your own – but copying and pasting isn't enough. AI is better at generating ideas than creating them outright.
