The White House summoned Facebook, Google, Amazon, Apple, Microsoft and Twitter to respond to Covid-19
One of the current serious problems that technology companies can contribute to is the problem of false information spread online.
Silicon Valley tech giants will have an official meeting at the White House to discuss emergency response to the Corona virus outbreak.
A representative of the Department of Policy and Science and Technology said that big Silicon Valley companies such as Facebook, Google, Amazon, Apple, Microsoft and Twitter will attend the meeting in person at the White House or via the Internet. Accordingly, the session will be run by President Trump's Technology Supervisor, Michael Kratios.
The exact content of the discussion is still unclear, but the technology companies are expected to discuss and find ways to cope with the Corona disease.
One of the current serious problems is the spread of false information circulating online. A good example of this is the fact that the French government has just stepped in to "scrape off" the information that drugs can kill corona virus. Similar fake information has also been spread like cannabis, coconut water or detergent can be used as a treatment for viruses. In other developments, Amazon must also take actions against the price increase of items such as masks or handwash.
Many technology companies now also have measures to prevent epidemics for themselves. Google, Amazon, Twitter or Facebook have just asked their employees to work from home instead of going to offices in Seattle or Silicon Valley. In the case of Amazon and Facebook, the decision was made because the Seattle offices of the two big men had just recorded a few cases positive for the Covid-19 virus strain. Amazon has also taken a drastic step when it announced it will not deduct the salaries of warehouse staff for this time off work in March.
Microsoft also claims its employees can work directly at home. Recently, the internal of this technology giant has recorded 2 cases of Corona virus.
Apple faces more serious threats, including supply chain and customer service. Statistics from the Chinese Government show that the giant only sold 500,000 iPhones in the mainland region last month, less than half the normal figures.
