The next iPad Pro can destroy a laptop with a top-notch upgrade
Will Apple succeed in replacing its laptop with its new iPad Pro?
The upcoming iPad Pro may receive a worthwhile upgrade related to the A14 Bionic chip, which will appear on the iPhone 12, giving it the power to compete against other full-fledged laptops.
Specifically, a well-known leaker in the technology world with the nickname "Fudge" on Twitter recently revealed that the upcoming iPad Pro tablets will be equipped with A14X chips. Fudge didn't say where he got this information, or any other parameters related to the A14X chip, but it is likely to be an "enhanced" version of Apple's next A-series chipset. and will bring up the next iPhone.
An upgraded A14 Bionic chip could be the key to bringing about the same - or even beat - performance performance of the iPad Pro. The reason is because Bionic A14 is said to be the first Apple chip manufactured on the 5nm process. The newly leaked iPhone 12 benchmark results show that it is not only enough to destroy all Android rivals in terms of performance, but also has the opportunity to challenge Apple's own MacBook Pro laptops.
The aforementioned benchmark results appear in a Geekbench 5 scoreboard, with the A14 Bionic chip running at 3.1GHz. If this result is correct, the chip of the chip has scored 1,658 points for single-core tests, and 4,612 for multi-core tests. The 13-inch MacBook Pro 2020, meanwhile, has a single-core score of 4,399.
As such, it is entirely possible that an upgraded A14 Bionic chip - or A14X - could turn iPad Pro into a super powerful tablet. It is impressive, when the current iPad Pro has very fast performance already.
In Tom's Guide's tests, the A12Z Bionic chip of the iPad Pro 2020 achieved a multi-core benchmark score of 4,720 and a single-core score of 1,126 with Geekbench 5 software, beating Microsoft's Surface Pro 7, which only scored a multi-core score of 4,443. Considering that the Surface Pro 7 uses the latest generation Intel Core i5 CPU, it's clear that the performance of iPad Pro is not to be underestimated.
Therefore, if the A14 Bionic can beat the A12Z Bionic, then an iPad Pro with the A14X chip can have enough performance to beat even some of the best laptops on the market today. And it will be a critical hit that Apple targets the performance of both Android and Windows 10 tablets.
Actual performance
Of course, pure performance in benchmarks doesn't always show the actual performance of a laptop or tablet. Many applications and tools run well on macOS laptops, but not smoothly on iPad OS, despite the incredible power of iPad Pro.
And even if the iPad Pro 2021 can beat the MacBook Pro in pure performance, it still needs to show the ability to "work" like Apple's sleek laptop. iPad OS has been improved quite a lot, including mouse support, to feel more like a laptop when using the Magic Keyboard exclusively for iPad Pro.
But there are still applications that do not work properly on iPad OS when users try to use the cursor with them. Therefore, Apple still has to research more before the iPad OS can undertake the dual task: both a tablet and a laptop.
The new iPad Pro will not appear this year, at least in early 2021. Which means Apple has plenty of time to tweak the iPad OS to improve its laptop experience without overly interfering with the operating system. core mobile. If Apple can do that, iPad Pro will really become a laptop replacement device as expected of the company for so long.
And even if Apple does not, the potential performance of the A14X chip still gives us a bright picture of an ARM-powered MacBook. Such a machine could be a logical and powerful replacement for the now-dead 12-inch MacBook, and is a counterweight to Apple's popular Chromebook and Windows 10 laptops.
