Samsung mass produced GDDR6 memory for next generation GPUs
Everyone is looking forward to using this memory on upcoming graphics cards.
This is the first time Samsung has produced GDDR6 memory in bulk. This memory is faster and more efficient than the GDDR5 which was very successful earlier and will appear on GPUs this year.
Samsung's GDDR6 uses 10nm technology and has twice the capacity of GDDR5 (using 20nm technology), ie 16GB instead of 8GB. Samsung also promised that memory will have a transfer rate of 18Gbps on each pin, a maximum transfer rate of 72GB / s. The new chip will have 1.35V voltage. GDDR5 has 9Gbps and 1.55V pin speed.
GDDR6 memory will bring more powerful new generation graphics cards
Thanks to that, it will produce much faster video card speed for playing games or video editing, digging Ethereum. Samsung said that 'GDDR6 production will play an important role in the early release of next generation graphics cards'. GDDR6 chips will eventually eliminate the entire GDDR5X in terms of performance.
Samsung has announced plans to produce GDDR6 memory since 2016 and revealed only a few months ago that they will start production in January. Not only Samsung, SK Hynix and Micron have similar plans. Their route is to produce pin speed of 16Gbps and 12Gbps.
