Samsung launches new 256GB SD Express microSD memory card, supporting 800MB/s read speed
In a press release, Samsung revealed that it has begun production of 256GB microSD memory card products based on the SD Express standard, also the company's first line of microSD memory cards to support this standard.
Samsung - one of the big names in the memory card and hard drive market - has just attracted attention when it introduced two new microSD memory card models, including a version that supports extremely fast data reading speeds, even Even better than the performance levels commonly found in solid-state drives (SSDs) based on the SATA interface inside general commercial PC systems today.
That means the card's maximum sequential read speed can be up to 800 megabytes per second, which is four times faster than conventional UHS-1 microSD cards (up to 200 MB/s), and Even faster than the highest read speed of SATA SSD (560MB/s), as well as close to the speed of Samsung portable SSD hard drive.
Samsung says the speed of the new 256MB microSD Express model will give PCs and smartphones better overall performance. The card is also integrated with Dynamic Thermal Guard (DTG) technology to help ensure the temperature remains stable even after many hours of continuous use.
To better meet users' needs for enhanced storage capacity, Samsung also announced that it has begun mass production of 1TB versions of its popular Pro Plus and Evo Plus microSD card product lines. The two new models are built on 8th generation V-NAND chip eight-layer stacking technology, undergoing a series of rigorous tests and providing reliable performance in a variety of environmental conditions.
The new 1TB microSD card has passed the industry's most stringent testing settings and delivers reliable usage even in challenging environments, with features like protection from water, extreme temperatures harsh, drop-resistant design, abrasion protection as well as X-ray and magnetic protection.
The 256GB SD Express microSD card will be available later this year, while the 1TB Pro Plus and Evo Plus microSD models will go on sale around the third quarter. The company has not yet revealed specific product prices.
