Microsoft accepts the reality, advising Edge users to use the add-on on the Chrome Web Store

Over the past few years, Microsoft has become much more pragmatic in developing its Edge web browser.

First, they switched to the Chromium rendering engine that rivals Google Chrome has long used, and also allows users to install browser-enhancing extensions from the Chrome Web Store.

It seems that this is not enough, because recently, Microsoft has taken one step further: recommend that users who want to find extensions for the Edge browser, consider Chrome Web Store.

Specifically, as in the image above, the link to the Chrome Web Store is placed in the extension management page (type edge: // extensions in the address bar) of Canary and Dev's Edge browser. On this page, you will see a green button that says " Get extensions for Microsoft Edge " - clicking here will open the page offering Microsoft extensions, and a line below it will say " You can also find great extensions in the Chrome Web Store "(You can also find many great extensions in Chrome Web Store) - clicking here will open the page offering the Google extension.

To use extensions from the Chrome Web Store, users still need to do one more thing, which is to enable the " Allow extensions from other stores " setting.

This is the first time Microsoft has linked to the Chrome Web Store, but there's nothing to blame. After all, this solution will help new users switch to Edge - which is slowly gaining more market share in the browser market - less confused and still able to continue using their favorite extensions like on Chrome before. However, it makes many people worried that Microsoft will increasingly depend on Google. Anyway, Chrome currently holds an almost unique position in the web world, and Google probably doesn't mind giving its rivals a "little" toy, at least for the time being. .
