The new Microsoft Edge browser will support all Chrome extensions
On Reddit, a member of Microsoft's Edge browser development team has confirmed that the new version based on Chromium may support all the extensions (extensions) available on Chrome.
For those who regularly use Chrome extensions from the gadget store, this is really good news.
Edge browser project manager Kyle Alden also confirmed this information during an interview last week: "We plan to support Chrome's current extensions." However, this is all just a plan, so this feature may not appear. But browsers based on current Chromium kernel like Vivaldi all support most extensions from Chrome web store so this is technically possible.
In addition to supporting extensions, Alden also shared about the development team's current intention to bring the new browser to all Microsoft devices. This means that the new browser may support Microsoft's Hololens headset.
Finally, Alden gave an explanation of how the Progressive WEb App works (PWA). These applications are capable of displaying web content and have the same interface as normal applications. The development team intends PWAs will be supported to install directly from the browser (like Chrome) and through Microsoft Store. In addition, EdgeHTML / Chakra browser engine will also continue to be supported so that older PWA applications can still work properly.
