Kaspersky expert warns about an Android virus that can automatically steal money
In a recent interview, security expert Viktor Chebyshev shared about a virus on Android devices with the ability to automatically steal money from victims.
Chebyshev leads research projects on mobile threats at security firm Kaspersky.
After entering the smartphone, the virus prompts the victim to open the banking app and log in. It can do this by sending notifications or activities that prompt the user to open the banking application.
Next, the virus will automatically press the necessary buttons for the money transfer. This process happens so fast that the victim does not even notice.
"The people behind this virus have thoroughly studied the structure of the banking applications they target. They know where the Login button should appear, where the username and password input fields should be, and Where is the money transfer button. Based on that information, they create a virus that can automatically click the buttons to perform the transfer," Chebyshev shared.
According to Mr. Chebyshev, currently Kaspersky has only recorded one virus of this type being distributed. However, it is not excluded that in the future there will be many other virus variants with similar activities.
When asked which platform is more at risk of being attacked by viruses targeting banking applications than Chebyshev replied, Android. According to this expert 99% of financial threats on mobile devices target Android.
