Microsoft has just introduced offline mode for the web version of OneDrive, helping users access files and work more efficiently anytime, anywhere, even without an internet connection.
This is part of Microsoft's effort to improve OneDrive's functionality that was implemented late last year. Microsoft's aim is to give users the ability to access data stored in their cloud services on more devices and anytime, anywhere.
New web-based offline mode allows OneDrive users to rename, organize, move, and copy files offline; Access the Home, My Files, Shared, Favorites, People and Meeting tabs without a network connection. When there is an internet connection, changes will be synchronized automatically.
Not only does it help access data when offline, the new offline mode also helps speed up file downloads and file interactions by up to 3 times in the browser, OneDrive, Teams and Outlook applications.
Andrey Esipov - Product Manager of OneDrive and Microsoft Lists said that to store file metadata offline mode using local storage method helps minimize interruptions due to cloud service limitations.
Currently, Microsoft is rolling out enhanced offline mode to personal and business accounts globally. Users need to have the latest Windows or macOS version of the OneDrive app and use the Edge or Chrome browser to use this feature.
Microsoft has no plans to expand offline mode to browsers and other Microsoft account types.
