Microsoft will add new features to OneDrive Business, allowing users to create backup points and restore previous versions of the entire content on the OneDrive account.

With Files Restore, the new feature will help users recover files 'from problems such as mass deletion, corruption or data loss,' Microsoft said.

Restore files are different from Version History

OneDrive already has the Version History feature for users to return to previous versions of each file, possibly to revert to the version before editing or even recover files that were accidentally deleted.

But Restore Files is different because it will return all data - files, folders - on the account to a specific time in the past.

Scheduled to be released in December, but postponed to January

Microsoft has revealed that it has started implementing this feature since the end of September 2017, from the annual conference for Ignite developers. They then published this picture of the Restore Files interface.

The original plan was to release Restore Files in December 2017 but it was not up to date. At a presentation at the conference on SharePoint on Saturday in San Diego, Production Manager of OneDrive Business, Stephen L. Rose revealed this feature will be available in the next few weeks.

This week has more information. According to Microsoft Office product roadmap, Files Restore will be available on OneDrive for Business later this month. This feature is not available on the free version, but there is another feature to protect against ransomware: Controlled Folder Access.
