You can chat using the Nintendo Switch Online app for Android and iOS devices. Nintendo Switch also has the ability to support voice chat using a headset with a built-in microphone. Use the Nintendo Switch Online app

Download and install the Nintendo Switch Online app. The Nintendo Switch Online app is available for free on the Google Play Store for Android smartphones and tablets, or the App Store on iPhone and iPad. The application is red with the word "Online" under the icon of two joy-con controllers. Follow these steps to download the Nintendo Switch Online app:

Open Google Play Store or App Store .

Search for "Nintendo Switch Online".

Tap GET or Install next to the Nintendo Switch Online app.

Open the Nintendo Switch Online app. You can open the app by tapping the icon on your mobile device's home screen, or tapping the Open button on the App Store/Google Play Store.

Sign in to the Nintendo Switch Online app. After opening the application, several information screens will appear. Swipe left to skip to the last page and tap Sign In . If you don't have a Nintendo account, you need to click Create a Nintendo Account at the bottom of the screen and follow the instructions to create an account.

Launch games that support online chat on Nintendo Switch. Tap or select the game image on the Nintendo Switch home screen to launch the game. Currently, Splatoon 2 is an online game that supports online chat through the Nintendo Switch Online application.

Select online chat. Games that support online chat will have an option to create or join a chat on the main menu or options list. Since Splatoon 2 is the only game that supports online chat, you need to go to the Online Lounge in Splatoon 2.

Launch Splatoon 2.

Press the ZR+ZL button at the start

Press button A repeatedly to skip all news and updates.

Press the X button to open the menu.

Choose Lobby (or Grizzco for Salmon Run).

Select Online Lounge .

Join a room or select Create Room . If you receive an invitation, you can choose a room to join. If there is no invitation, select Create Room .

Select game mode. You can choose Private Match or other modes that the game offers.

If possible, check the box to allow friends to join chat with a password.

Click OK . This button is located in the middle of the Nintendo Switch screen.

Tap Send Notification to My Smart Device . Chat rooms on Nintendo Switch Online will be created on smartphones or tablets.

Tap the chat bar at the bottom of the app. On your smartphone or tablet, tap the chat bar at the bottom of the screen. The chat room will open with options to invite friends.

Invite friends to chat room. There are three ways to invite friends to chat.

Social Media Friend allows you to invite friends from social networks. Tap this option and select the social network to post the invite link to that app platform.

Nintendo Switch Friend allows you to invite friends from your Nintendo Switch account.

Users You Played With allows you to invite users who have played with you before.

Use chat features on Nintendo Switch Online. After setting up a chat room on Nintendo Switch Online, you will have the following options:

Invite friends: To invite more friends to chat, click on the person image in the upper right corner of the Nintendo Switch Online application.

Mute the chatroom: click on the microphone icon with a straight line through it to mute the chatroom.

Leave the chat: to leave the chat room, click on the "X" at the bottom of the screen.

Use a headset with a built-in microphone

Connect a headset with integrated microphone to the headphone jack. The headphone jack is located on top of the Nintendo Switch, next to the game card slot.

Launch a multiplayer compatible game. To start a game on Nintendo Switch, click or select the game on the Nintendo Switch home screen. Currently, the only game that supports multiplayer chat via headset is Fortnite, which you can download for free from the Nintendo eShop.

Select multiplayer mode. Compatible games let you chat with team members via a headset with microphone. On Fortnite, you can chat with your team or friends in Battle Royal mode.
