Nintendo Switch will continue to lack supply in 2022
Since the beginning of 2020 until now, the Covid-19 pandemic has negatively affected the supply chain of goods globally. For the gaming industry, it's a lack of supply versus demand for hardware components for electronic devices.
It is also for this reason that a series of famous consoles such as PS5, Xbox Series X / S or Nintendo Switch have been continuously sold out for a long time. And according to a recent report, the gaming community will continue to accept this situation throughout 2022.
Specifically, Nintendo of Japan president Shuntaro Furukawa has stated that the supply of Switch will not be able to meet the demand in 2022. Besides the problem related to the scarcity of semiconductor chips, Covid -19 and its variants also affect cross-border freight operations.
Although Nintendo previously proactively lowered its Switch production forecast, demand for the console is still very high, especially after the Switch OLED model was released in October 2021.
Despite the supply issues, the Switch is still bringing in impressive sales numbers for Nintendo. While many think the 5-year-old model needs a successor, it could be a few years before Nintendo is ready to focus on developing a whole new generation of hardware.
