How to reformat a laptop

If your laptop was recently attacked by a virus and you feel the system is still affected and want things to run smoothly again, consider reformatting your laptop. Reformatting a laptop means erasing the entire hard drive and this is the most effective way to 'clean up' the computer. Nowadays, reformatting a laptop is quite simple. Manufacturers often provide users with a copy of the operating system or create a recovery partition on the hard drive. However, before starting, it is important that you back up all your data to an external hard drive or CD/DVD, etc., otherwise you will lose all your data after formatting.

Insert the operating system disc into the CD/DVD player. Normally, the disc will run automatically and open a menu or options page. Select the task of installing a new copy of the operating system.

If the CD does not launch automatically, double-click "My Computer" and then right-click the drive with the operating system disk. Click "Auto-Run".
