When downloading large files, it is worth using a download manager like Persepolis. With multi-threaded support, Persepolis allows you to download files at the maximum speed that the connection allows.

If there is a problem with the connection, instead of starting the download from the beginning, you should be able to resume. And instead of letting your downloads use up valuable connection bandwidth and valuable system resources, you can schedule it to do so whenever you don't need to use your computer much.

Read on to see how you can download files faster with Persepolis!

Install Persepolis

Persepolis is available for Linux, Windows, macOS and BSD. Download the corresponding installer from the Persepolis website and install it in the operating system.

Click the + button on Persepolis to create a new download from the link in the clipboard. You can start the download immediately or adjust some options by clicking Show Options.

If you decide to customize the download, a window will open with other modes to display the conversion options. These options allow you to change the Download Folder , where the file will be saved, add a Username and Password , if you are trying to download from a site that requires a login, and set up a Proxy server if available. Finally, you can specify the start / end time to schedule when the download will run, limit the speed and also adjust the number of connections.

This final setting is set to 16 by default. This number is considered to be the maximum for most servers, so the article does not suggest that you increase it. In contrast, many file servers have a limit of 8 connections. If the download is unsuccessful, it is worth adjusting this value to a number below 8. However, this will also reduce the maximum speed you can achieve on your connection.

Clicking OK will start the download immediately. Alternatively, click Download later to delay the download in the future, adding it to the list in Pause of Persepolis.

Manage downloads

To start the download, select any item in the main Persepolis window. And click the button with the Play icon . You can use the Pause and Stop buttons right next to you to pause or completely stop an active download.

Each download is also presented in a separate window where you have access to similar actions: Resume , Pause , and Stop .

Downloaded Options in each window of the download file allows you to limit the transfer speed, to ensure that the download process does not affect your gaming or browsing. If you do not plan to sit in front of the screen, you can activate After download. This option can automatically turn off the computer when the download is complete.

Persepolis comes with two download lists by default. The main list is used to manage downloads. The remaining list is Scheduled Downloads , which allows you to automatically add the desired download file within a specific time frame.

You can send files from one list to another by right-clicking on any download, and then selecting Send to and the name of the list.

If you access the Scheduled Downloads list , you will be able to determine the start and end time that Persepolis will automatically download the files.

You can also choose to start downloading files from the beginning or the end of the list and whether to keep the computer 'awake' during download.
