How to clean the horizontal load washing machine (front door)
Step 1: Dip the sponge in a bowl of vinegar and wash the washer. If you haven't removed the mold yet, soak it in vinegar for about 20 minutes. Then, dry the gasket with a paper towel and use a bristle toothbrush to remove any remaining mold.
Step 2: Pour 500ml of vinegar directly into the drum and close the washer door before proceeding to the next step. If you see a lot of residue build up, add about 120ml of vinegar to dissolve the stain.
Step 3: Dissolve 60ml of water with 55g of baking soda. After the baking soda has dissolved, pour the solution into the detergent, rinse, and bleach compartment to clean the chambers while the washer operates.
Step 4: Let the washing machine operate in normal mode with hot water, at the highest temperature of the machine so that the detergent solution has more time to soak into the washing bucket. The high temperature combined with vinegar and baking soda will help to dissolve and destroy mold, debris in the washing bucket.
Step 5: Use a rag soaked in clean water to wipe away any residue or mold left in the washing machine after it has finished running. If the old mold hasn't been removed, use a hard bristle brush to scrub it off.
How to clean the top loading washing machine
Step 1: Set the machine to run the longest and the highest temperature.
Step 2: Pour 1 liter of white vinegar into the washing bucket while the water is rinsing into the washing machine.
Step 3: Pour 220g of baking soda into the washing bucket while the water is rinsing. Baking soda reacts with the vinegar to remove stains from the washing bucket and clean the inside of the machine.
Step 4: Close the lid of washing machine for 1 minute so that it can start the running cycle. This step helps to dissolve the baking soda, vinegar and water solution completely and stirred evenly in the washing bucket. Then, open the lid to stop the washing machine. Note, some washing machines automatically lock the lid after starting a run, press the stop or pause button to unlock and open the lid.
Step 5: Dip the toothbrush into the solution in the washing bucket and clean all the compartments. Focus on places where the mold is easy to multiply. Then, wipe off the residue with a clean cloth.
Note
- If your toothbrush doesn't work, use a bristle brush or a dishcloth with a rough face
- Put the removable parts in water and soak for 20 minutes before scouring
Step 6: Close the lid and press the start button on the washing machine if it does not start again. Wait until the machine runs all the way into the washing bucket to drain the water. Note, clean the sides and top of the washing machine with a damp cloth while it is running to save time.
Step 7: Use a clean rag to wipe away any remaining stains inside the washing machine. If necessary, dip a rag in a mixture of vinegar and warm water in a 3: 1 ratio to remove stubborn stains. If the washer has a lot of stains, run another cycle with 1 liter of vinegar.
