Next time, mobile Facebook users will have to install an Messenger app if they want to chat
According to CNET , this move is part of Facebook's strategy of developing an independent messaging application, which supports Slingshot feature ( a type of self-destructive message ).
Facebook said that Facebook Messenger application has stability and ability to handle message content 20% faster than Facebook application.
Previously, mobile users could message directly on Facebook via the "chat" feature available in this application. However, after Facebook acquired WhatsApp , they wanted to split chat into a standalone application.
