Chromebooks can access Windows via Citrix Receiver

Now, Chromebooks (MTXT running Chrome OS web OS) can access Windows desktops and applications through Citrix's virtualization technology.

Preview Citrix Receiver Tech software for Chrome OS operating system is available on the Chrome Web Store. This is a free client application for businesses that use Citrix virtualization technology to run desktops and applications in data centers.

Citrix Receiver is available on Windows, Mac, iOS, Android and BlackBerry operating systems, allowing users to access virtual desktops and applications from any computer, tablet or smartphone. The addition last week brought the same technology to Chromebook, addressing an important limitation in devices, forcing users to do all the work with computers inside Google's Chrome browser.

" If you use Citrix in your organization, you can now install the Citrix Receiver Tech Preview application from Chrome Web Store to access desktop software like Adobe Photoshop directly from your Chromebook ," the manager Technical program Alberto Martin of Google writes in a blog post.

Last week, Google also updated the Chrome OS to add " VPN and secure Wi-Fi (802.1X) ", Martin said. Updating Chromebooks to the latest version requires users to go to Settings, accept updates and restart the computer. Because Chromebooks only boot in seconds, this process is very quick.

Google revealed its Chromebook plan in May 2011. At Google's Chromebook launch, Citrix announces support for Citrix Receiver, saying the software uses HTML5 to create a rich user experience in the Chrome browser.

To use Citrix Receiver on Chromebooks, businesses must have the deployment of XenApp or XenDesktop in their data center, installing some new files that allow connections from clients to virtual desktops and applications.
