Apple quietly discontinued an accessory that was criticized by customers
Apple is said to have discontinued its FineWoven line of accessories after months of complaints from customers.
With the launch of the iPhone 15 series last September, Apple stopped producing leather accessories to switch to using the new FineWoven material. Even though the two iPhone case variants have the same price tag of $59, their look, feel, and longevity aren't exactly the same.
Apple has quietly discontinued the FineWoven accessory.
As a result, customers and reviewers have been expressing their disappointment with FineWoven accessories on online platforms for months. Finally, Apple may have listened as the company discontinued and dismantled its FineWoven accessory production line.
According to reports, the company is said to be switching to a new material due to FineWoven's poor durability. It's currently unclear what the new material could be, but it's safe to say it's not genuine leather.
It is known that, unlike its predecessor leather products, the FineWoven product line scratches easily, looks old and lacks a premium grip. A lot of people actually note that FineWowen accessories look cheap. In fact, some people said that when they opened the box of a brand new FineWoven case for iPhone, a scratch appeared on it and could not be repaired. Not to mention the dull, matte surface of the case looks cheap compared to glossy leather.
With the iPhone 15 series now halfway through its release cycle, it's very likely that the new replacement will launch alongside the iPhone 16 series when they're introduced in the fall. Until then, the company will likely continue to sell FineWoven cases, Magsafe wallets, Apple Watch bands, and AirTag keychains. Since FineWoven cases are no longer produced, the products sold are simply the company's inventory.
