Windows 11 will likely not require a reboot for security updates
Perhaps many of us feel uncomfortable with the fact that Windows 10 and 11 often require a system reboot to install available updates.
However, this annoyance may soon disappear because according to a report from Windows Central, Microsoft is trying to bring the Hot Patching feature from Windows Server to versions of Windows 11 and even Windows 10 for users. Common.
If you don't know, Windows Hot Patching is a special tool that allows "patching code in the memory of running processes without having to restart the process". In other words, you can install specific updates while using your PC without restarting the operating system. This is not a new concept for Windows Server, and Microsoft is currently testing this feature in the Dev Channel for regular Windows users.
The idea here is to allow users to install periodic security updates quickly and conveniently without interrupting the system's workflow simply by requiring a reboot. But technically, you still need to reboot your system every few months to install "base updates" for subsequent releases. Anyway, having to reboot the system every once in a while sounds much more appealing than constantly having to do this every time a patch arrives.
Windows Central revealed that Microsoft wants to include Windows Hot Patching in the 24H2 version for consumers, expected to launch in the second half of this year with the name "Windows 11 2024 Update". However, this feature will initially only be available for x86 systems, while ARM64 devices will receive Hot Patching in 2025.
Anyway, this is just a rumor. We need a specific confirmation from Microsoft to be sure about any upcoming changes on Windows.
