The second generation (iPad 2) has a slimmer design, Apple's dual-core A5 processor with VGA front camera and 720p rear camera for FaceTime calling.
The third generation has a Retina display, using the new Apple A5X processor with quad-core graphics processor, 5 megapixel camera, 1080p HD video recording, voice interaction and 4G (LTE).
The fourth generation uses the Apple A6X chip, replacing the 30-pin connector port with Lightning.
iPad Air uses the A7 chip, Apple's M7 motion processing copper, for the first time to reduce the thickness since iPad 2.
iPad Air 2 uses A8X chip, Apple A8 motion co-processor, 8 megapixel camera, Touch ID fingerprint sensor and continues to reduce thickness. iPad introduced in 2017 using Apple A9 processor, sacrificing some improvements on the iPad Air 2 for a lower price.
There are 4 iPad Mini versions, all of which have screen sizes of 7.9 inches (20 cm). The first generation has the same specifications as iPad 2 but uses Lightning port. The iPad Mini 2 has an additional Retina display, the Apple A7 processor, an M7 motion processor companion, which is almost identical to the iPad Air. iPad Mini 3 adds Touch ID fingerprint sensor. iPad Mini 3 uses Apple A8 chip and motion processor bronze M8.
