What is the Blackmagic Camera app? Why should you use it?

What is the Blackmagic Camera app?

Blackmagic Design has announced the Blackmagic Camera app that allows you to create Hollywood-style cinematic videos without having to carry around any bulky equipment. You can manually change the settings to match your surroundings. If you want to leave it in auto-adjust mode, you have that option too.

If you're familiar with Blackmagic products, you'll be happy to know that the interface is similar to other camera apps the company has produced, so there won't be any need to learn the new system.

As of September 2023, this app is only available for iPhone and iPad users. Blackmagic Camera requires at least an iPhone XS and iOS 16 or later. Blackmagic has not yet said whether the app will be developed for Android users.

Have you ever wondered if you're speaking too loudly or the exposure is too high? You can save time during the editing process by simply viewing histograms and audio meters right on the home screen. Additionally, you can adjust the audio gain with a single tap on the audio meter.

Furthermore, if you're already taking advantage of Blackmagic Cloud, you can use it even more within the app. All you have to do is log in to Blackmagic Cloud via the easy to access Media tab and everything you shoot with the camera will automatically download to the Cloud for easy access later in DaVinci Resolve.

What if you're using the iPad's Blackmagic Camera app? That's perfect. You can do everything on one screen exactly like with the mobile app. If the camera app is set to store your footage in the Cloud, you can easily switch apps and use DaVinci Resolve on iPad to finish editing your project.
