The legendary Schwebebahn monorail in Germany's North Rhine-Westphalia region, completed in 1901, connects several industrial towns along the winding Wupper River valley. The introduction of this monorail contributed to the birth of the city of Wuppertal in 1929.

The railway glides at an altitude of 12.1 m above the congested street with a route of nearly 13 km. The monorail pushes the train to move at 60 km/h, transporting more than 80,000 people a day.

Stoosbahn, Switzerland

The Stoosbahn railway in Switzerland started operating in December 2017. The carriages are designed in a cylindrical shape capable of self-spinning, allowing passengers to keep their balance when moving uphill up to 47.7 degrees. This train also holds the record for the steepest mountain climb in the world.

Two high-capacity train lines totaling 98 kilometers in length in Chongqing, China, are the longest monorail system in the world and among the busiest. In particular, a section of Line 2 passes through the middle of a high-rise apartment building to save land, avoid having to go around or destroy the building.

The DM rail-road bus in Japan is a diesel-powered bus equipped with a series of train wheels that can be deployed in about 15 seconds. The DM runs a 48 km route between Kaiyo town in Tokushima and Muroto city, Kochi prefecture, which can carry around 20 passengers per trip.
