When it comes to anime sibling relationships, they can be the best of friends or the epitome of dysfunction. From harmonious relationships to lifelong grievances that explode into bitter fights, things can get complicated, but even more so when it comes to twins.
Some support and get along well, while others can't stand being in the same room together. You'd think that sharing blood would make them get along, but that's not always the case. So without further ado, here's a list of the most iconic twins in anime .
Ram and Rem (Re:Zero)
Born in an Oni village, twin sisters Ram and Rem had different experiences growing up. While the pink-haired Ram was hailed as a prodigy, her blue-haired twin sister Rem was considered inferior, which severely affected Rem's way of thinking. The twin sisters became maids for Margrave Roswaal Mathers after he saved them from being killed during an attack on their village.
Ram is more expressive than his twin and can be quite cruel. Despite how the community treats them differently, Ram still cares deeply for Rem and is protective of her. However, Rem appears to be more withdrawn and withdrawn due to her childhood trauma, but gradually opens up when interacting with the protagonist.
Mei and Fujioka Misaki (Another)
Mei and Fujioka Misaki are twin sisters who were separated at birth. While Fujioka stayed with her biological mother, Mei was given to her aunt to help her recover from the birth of her own child. The two sisters discovered the truth while in elementary school and became closer.
However, Fujioka later died of leukemia. We get a glimpse of the two sisters' relationship in the OVA, where the reserved Mei becomes much more cheerful and outgoing. Not only is the death of her twin sister a traumatic experience for Mei, but she also serves as a premonition for the infamous 'Class 3-3 Curse' to begin again.
Zero and Ichiru Kiryu (Vampire Knight)
Complicated is an understatement when describing the relationship between identical twins Zero and Ichiru Kiryu. The two brothers were once very close but became distant after Zero assumed that Ichiru Kiryu had died along with their parents in a vampire attack. Unlike Zero, Ichiru struggled with health issues and was never able to reach his full potential as a vampire hunter like his parents.
As a result, Ichiru becomes jealous of Zero and is torn between love and hate. While Zero is seen as cold and distant, Ichiru can be quite sociable and charming. Although the two brothers occasionally clash, it can be seen that they still care for each other despite what has happened between them.
Hikaru & Kaoru Hitachiin (Ouran High School Host Club)
Hikaru and Kaoru Hitachiin are identical twins who are quite attached to each other. As members of the Ouran Host Club - a female entertainment and customer service club - Hikaru and Kaoru do not mind acting out incestuous acts to earn extra money for the club. Furthermore, they enjoy playing the game of guessing the twins with everyone.
Before joining the club, the twins had difficulty forming relationships with others and were largely dependent on each other. Despite being the youngest, Kaoru was more calm and well-rounded than Hikaru, who was emotionally immature. Although the twins were very close, they gradually became more independent, wanting to form their own identities.
Isami and Takumi Aldini (Food Wars!: Shokugeki no Soma)
Passionate about cooking, twins Isami and Takumi Aldini come from a Japanese-Italian family that runs a popular Italian restaurant in Florence. The pair grew up loving food and cooking, so their uncle encouraged them to complete their training at the Totsuki Culinary Academy.
The blond Takumi is hot-tempered and more competitive than his calm twin brother. On the other hand, Isami is a cheerful guy, but hides his insecurities about his cooking skills, which are not as great as Takumi's. However, the twins always support each other, acknowledge each other's strengths, and work together to stay ahead.
