The future of the iPhone depends on how you think Face ID

Ming-Chi Kuo analyst at KGI Securities recently published a study for investors, predicting what Apple will do in the future with the iPhone, involving Touch ID and Face ID technologies.

Many of us are curious what Apple will do when removing Touch ID and replacing it with Face ID, using a biometric solution or going back to Touch ID when it can work independently on the screen.

  1. 7 reasons why you should continue to use the old iPhone

Kuo believes that Apple's future plan depends on whether Face ID is accepted by the public.

'The key question is whether new iPhones launched in 2018 support Touch ID. We believe that the important factors are (1) whether iPhone X's Face ID brings a positive user experience, (2) technical issues that Apple must deal with using a fingerprint solution on the screen. We think Apple will replace Touch ID based on the current Home button with on-screen fingerprint technology for a more accurate screen-to-body ratio, if they come back to Touch ID '.

If Face ID is received by iPhone X users, Kuo thinks that 2018's iPhone products will likely use TrueDepth Camera and support Face ID.

If Apple chooses to go back to the Touch ID as a biometric option or to completely replace Face ID, Kuo also thinks it will use the sensor under the screen. However, 3D Touch will be a challenge for Apple.

'That's because the 3D Touch module makes the whole panel thicker and potentially affects scanning under the screen. If Face ID is not impressive, Apple may focus on developing sensors below the screen. Even so, they will still find ways to overcome technical problems'.

If Face ID is really well received and appears on the iOS devices of 2018, Kuo thinks that competitors on Android will try to strengthen the development of face recognition, promote the production of factors related to receiving face '.

Face ID will be within reach for users this November when iPhone X officially hits the shelves. Because Face ID is a new biometric system, there will be many security, functional and privacy concerns, but Vice President Craig Federighi of Apple also tries to reassure public opinion with many interviews. He said: 'Once Face ID reaches the user's hands, all doubts will disappear.' It 'will work' and 'you don't even need to think'.
