Now you don't need to worry anymore when Microsoft Office 2016 has AutoSave mode. This feature was updated last July for Office 365 users. You can see it as a new conversion button in the top left corner in Excel and PowerPoint 2016.

AutoSave is just a small feature but it brings unexpected results. You can use this feature as a version control system. You can go back to the history of saved and opened specific saved files. If you do not want to save specific changes, you can restore the previous version of the file. This will turn the old version into the current version.

If you see this feature turned off, just hover over it and the annotation tool will tell you why. For example, if the file is saved to any other location like the desktop, this button will be turned off.

When you turn off AutoSave, this feature will no longer save your document automatically every time you change it. Instead, you will need to click the Save icon or click File> Save .

The old AutoRecover feature in Microsoft Office is not very effective, but after being updated it is much more useful.

Saving yourself requires you to be online. Also, saving documents on OneDrive after a few seconds depends on your bandwidth speed.
