Samsung Galaxy S21 will likely use the Chinese manufacturer's OLED panel, no longer 120Hz
Some Galaxy S21 models will feature OLED panels manufactured by Chinese company BOE, instead of using Samsung Display's OLED panels.
Right now, we have received some leaked information regarding Samsung's 2021 flagship smartphones, which will most likely be called Galaxy S21 series.
According to a SamMobile report, some Galaxy S21 models will feature OLED panels manufactured by Chinese company BOE. Instead of using OLED panels manufactured by Samsung Display, although Samsung is currently the No. 1 OLED display manufacturer on the market.
A source from South Korea said that the Galaxy S21 Ultra version will still be equipped with Samsung OLED panels. Meanwhile, BOE's OLED platforms currently do not support 120Hz.
Samsung sent a request for a quote to BOE, which is what manufacturers usually do before the product tests about half a year. This includes a request for cooperation, a quote for products, payment terms and quality requirements.
If the Galaxy S21 is actually equipped with BOE panels, it means that Samsung's flagship smartphones won't have a 120Hz screen. This will be a step back from the Galaxy S20. BOE's OLED platforms will only support 90Hz.
Samsung Display is a manufacturer of OLED screens, and is a brother in the same family as Samsung Electronics. However, the activities of these two companies are completely independent. Some analysts believe that the cooperation with BOE is just a trick of Samsung Electronics, in order to force Samsung Display to reduce the price of OLED panels. However, really, how we will have to wait a bit longer for confirmation from BOE.
