Microsoft releases a recovery tool to help repair Windows machines experiencing CrowdStrike issues
Microsoft has released a recovery tool designed to help IT admins repair Windows machines affected by CrowdStrike's faulty update that took 8.5 million Windows devices offline last Friday. .
This tool creates a bootable USB that IT administrators can use to help quickly restore affected machines.
Although CrowdStrike has released an update to fix the software that resulted in millions of systems experiencing the Blue Screen of Death error, not all machines may automatically receive that fix. Some IT administrators have reported that restarting the PC multiple times will get the necessary update, but for others, the only way out is to manually boot into Safe Mode and delete the update file. CrowdStrike has problems.
Microsoft's tool now makes this recovery process less manual by booting into the Windows PE environment via USB, accessing the affected machine's drive, and automatically deleting the problematic CrowdStrike file, helping the machine boot. normal movement. This avoids having to boot into Safe Mode or require admin rights on the machine, as the tool only accesses the drive without booting into a local copy of Windows. If the drive is protected with BitLocker encryption, the tool will prompt for a BitLocker recovery key and then continue repairing the CrowdStrike update.
Microsoft also has its own recovery steps for Windows virtual machines running on Azure, and the company has also published recovery steps for all Windows 10 and Windows 11 devices on its support site.
