Laptop ... 6 built-in speakers

Acer, the world's third-largest computer maker, is "plotting" to conquer Western users with a series of multimedia entertainment features and features.

Called "Green Jewel", or Gemstone Blue, the new line of laptops is equipped with a resolution screen that is equivalent to a top-of-the-line HDTV (1920 x 1080 pixels).

Along with that is an integrated 6-speaker system, including a subwoofer to create the so-called 5.1 surround sound.

The starting price of Gemstone Blue in the United States is up to 1999 USD, but it is still cheaper than some of the newer, popular laptops like Apple's Macbook Air.

The screen size is up to 18.4 inches, which is enough to replace a desktop, though it seems a bit heavy and bulky compared to a regular laptop.

To make money bag "less painful", users can choose the lower level version with 3 integrated speakers and smaller screen (but still achieve HD resolution). The price of this version is 1699 USD.

According to Acer, both versions are equipped with Blu-ray players, allowing users to fully enjoy the high-definition experience.

Another point worth noting is that movie shows and TV shows will occupy the entire screen of the laptop, not leaving the black edges like normal computers.

Not yet true surround

" This is the first laptop in the world to reach a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels, and is also the first laptop to equip up to six speakers, " Acer said.

However, according to experts, Gemstone Blue is still unable to achieve true surround sound quality. To create this effect, the speaker system must be arranged around the ears of the listener.

Currently, some laptops use only two speakers to simulate surround sound and it seems that Acer does the same. Only the simulation with 6 speakers is definitely "good" than 2 speakers.

In a recent speech in New York, Acer President Gianfranco Lanci said the company will maintain the same brand eMachines of Gateway and use this "pedal" to accomplish its goal of selling 300 million computers in in 2008.

According to 2007 statistics, Acer is currently the PC company with the third largest market share in the world, behind only HP and Dell.

Acer's plan is to use the Acer brand for high-end, high-performance products like the above Gemstone Blue, while eMachines targets the middle and low end market.
