Greco-Roman mummy was discovered in Fayoum

An Egyptian and Russian archaeological mission operating in Deir al-Banat area of ​​Governor Fayoum's Qalmasha discovered a wooden coffin with mummies dating from the Greek-Roman period .

The Secretary-General of the Supreme Council on Antiquities, Mostafa al-Waziry said that the mummy was wrapped in good condition, was wrapped in linen and wearing a blue and bronze mask.

He noted that the mummy was well preserved, the coffin was in a state of degradation when the lid broke and the cracked background was clearly visible.

In a press release, Waziry said that the mask was decorated with images of the god Khebir. The chest part depicts the goddess Isis, while under the figure there is a drawing of a thick strip of white that cannot be identified.

The head of Islamic Archeology Department Mohamed Abdellatif said the researchers had made the restoration of this coffin and mummy at the discovery site.

Few people suspect that the Russian scientists associated with the Russian Oriental Research Institute have been working in this area for about seven years.

The archaeological area is divided into two sections. The first section contains the ruins of a church and a monastery, while the second area includes cemeteries dating from different eras, including the early Greek-Roman and Coptic times.
